Katy is split across three ZIP codes – 77450 east of Mason Road, 77493 north and west toward the Grand Parkway, and 77494 south of I-10 – and a disposal visit is booked off the ZIP code, not the city line. The unit under the sink is ignored until the switch produces nothing at all, or water is left standing in the bowl after the dishwasher has run.
Three things are worth checking before you phone: what the wall switch does, whether the red button underneath has dropped, and whether the dishwasher drain hose runs into the disposal. Call (832) 598-8646, with the label on the bottom of the unit to hand if you can reach it.

What gets checked on a Katy disposal call, grouped by where the fault sits: Electrical side - wall switch, plug and outlet, the kitchen breaker, and the overload protector underneath Grind chamber - foreign objects, the turntable, the shredder ring and the impellers behind the bottom plate Drain side - the discharge tube, the P-trap and the pipe run downstream of it Dishwasher branch - the hose carrying dishwasher water into the disposal inlet, and its joint Seal points - sink flange, mounting assembly, tail pipe gasket and the body itself.
What gets checked on a Katy disposal call, grouped by where the fault sits:
The switch clicks and nothing follows. No hum, no vibration through the basin, no sound of a motor trying to start.
iFixit works this one from the outside inward, and the order is the useful part: the red reset button on the bottom of the machine, pressed until it clicks; the disposal’s own switch position and any wires vibration has shaken loose; the outlet, confirming the plug is connected and dry, resetting a GFCI or testing the socket with a lamp; then the breaker panel, for a kitchen breaker sitting off or half tripped. Only after that does it move inside – a flywheel stuck on a dropped object, a seized motor turned with an offset Allen key, and motor failure where water infiltration has rusted the internals.
The button underneath has dropped. Pressing it either does nothing, or holds for one run before it pops out again.
InSinkErator describes the overload protector as a small square red button on the bottom of the disposal facing the floor, which drops about a quarter of an inch – 5mm – when it trips. Its sequence is switch off first, press gently, and if it will not stay up, wait ten minutes and try again; EZ Connect units are unplugged and given up to twenty minutes of cooling. The last line matters most: a protector still tripping after a proper reset is reporting something underneath it. iFixit checks the power supply, a hum indicating an obstruction, the motor windings and the wiring.
A cycle ends with standing water in the dishwasher, or dirty water rises into the sink bowl while it drains.
In most kitchens the dishwasher drains through the disposal, so that side is ruled out before the dishwasher is opened up. iFixit counts two inlets on a disposal – one from the sink, one from the dishwasher – and a single outlet to the drain, and says hoses that are loose or not properly secured will leak; the dishwasher connector appears again in its leak checklist, so the joint is checked for both symptoms at once. Waste King is specific about the fitting: its disposals take a 7/8 inch internal diameter dishwasher hose, and a different size needs a connector kit.
The opening smells sour, worst in the morning, and the smell is back a day after the sink is scrubbed.
Waste King puts most disposal odor down to food built up on the splash guard rather than anywhere in the pipe, and cleans it with baking soda and a scouring pad with the unit switched off. Whether you can do that at the sink depends on the mount: the splash guard is removable on its EZ Mount units and not removable on the 3-Bolt Professional Mount. Waste King also lists odor from the opening as one of three signs of a jam, so a smell is not automatically a cleaning problem.
Appointments are usually available same-day or next-day, depending on technician availability and your location. For same-day service we normally provide a 2–3 hour arrival window and call you about 20–30 minutes before the technician arrives.
Katy runs across three ZIP codes, and the three do not route the same way:
Book by the ZIP code on your mail, not the community name. Hours are Monday to Saturday, 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM.
Where to go next: garbage disposal repair for the appliance across the service area, and appliance repair in Katy for the three ZIP codes and the rest of the kitchen. A disposal that backs up during a dishwasher cycle belongs on dishwasher repair, and a kitchen losing cold at the same time belongs on refrigerator repair. Questions before booking go through contact, or call (832) 598-8646.

InSinkErator's sequence is switch off at the wall, press gently, and if it does not stay up, wait ten minutes and try again; EZ Connect units want up to twenty minutes of cooling. If it still will not hold, the protector is reporting something underneath it - an obstruction, a winding fault or a wiring problem.
All three - 77450, 77493 and 77494. The boundary that catches people out is Firethorne: the 77494 side is in, while addresses on the W Firethorne Rd side sit in 77423, outside the area.
Waste King names large whole bones, clam and oyster shells, whole corn husks, glass, china, plastic, bottle caps, tin, aluminum foil, utensils, caustic drain cleaner and hot grease. InSinkErator separately says never to pour grease or fat in.
No. InSinkErator's wording is not to stick your hand in the garbage disposal at any time, and iFixit's clog guide says never to use your hand to move the blades. The route is from underneath - the wrench into the hole at the bottom, used like a crank - then tongs or pliers from above, power off.
The brand, the model and serial number if you can get to them, and a sentence on what the unit does at the switch. Waste King points out that those numbers sit on a label on the bottom of the disposal - awkward to read, but what identifies the mount and the parts.
