Parts-supplier guidance traces this to meltwater refreezing in the drain line. A defrost heater that fails or does not produce enough heat, a drain strap that is not doing its job – the small copper or aluminum piece connected to the heater – or a stopped evaporator fan can all let ice form there. Sediment, food particles and mold can also narrow the tube over many defrost cycles, and a control board or temperature sensor that runs the defrost cycle wrongly lets melted frost refreeze in place. The same page notes warm water from a turkey baster can thaw a blocked tube, which handles the ice but not whatever let it form.
The tube is thawed and flushed and the pan emptied. Then comes the part that stops a repeat: strap position checked against the heater, heater tested for continuity, and the evaporator fan run under power. If all three pass, the defrost control and its sensor are next.

F7E1 concerns the basket speed sensor, which is built into the shift actuator; F7E5 is the related shifter fault. Parts-site answers on that actuator mention loud grinding and slow movement. A garment trapped between impeller and basket can trigger the same thing.

Heat came back after a part was fitted, then dropped away once more.
A parts list for the WED5800BW0 electric dryer puts the thermal fuse first at 44% and the heating element at 22%, with the thermal cut-off kit (5%), connecting wire (4%) and thermistor (3%) behind, and instructs cleaning vent and lint path before testing so the failure does not repeat. The high-limit thermostat monitors drum temperature. A restricted exhaust can overheat the dryer and open a replacement fuse the same way.
The exhaust is cleared end to end, including the lint path inside the cabinet and the outside hood. Fuse, high-limit thermostat, element and connecting wire are then tested for continuity. Skip the airflow fix and the documentation’s own warning applies: the failure repeats.
A new temperature probe went in, yet F3E2 is back.
A forum thread documents this: sensor swapped, fault identical, the control board left as next candidate. Parts documentation for Whirlpool’s sealed RTD sensor gives 1,080-1,100 ohms at room temperature, so the new probe can be proven good. iFixit’s electric oven guide adds a check for 208-240 VAC at the bake element during a bake call, and for melting or looseness on the terminal block, both of which separate wiring faults from a failed control.
Probe measured cold, the harness between probe and control traced for heat damage or a loose pin, voltage confirmed at the element, and only then is the board assessed. The aim is to avoid a second part bought on the same guess as the first.
